Making yummy Caribbean Stew
FSU enjoyed prepping the vegetables to make a Caribbean Stew; before eating it all up and declaring it delicious! They were intrigued by the Caribbean spices and plantains.
Learning about steel pans during International Week
FSU watched video clips about how steel drums are turned into steel pans; listened to steel pan bands from the Caribbean; then tuned up to make our own steel pan music!
Chinese New Year
FSU celebrate Chinese New Year, by making and eating delicious food, then enjoying a noisy dragon dance!
Garage visit
FSU loved their visit to a local garage to find out about engines and the job of a mechanic; asking lots of questions and listening well. Back at school, the children created their own mechanic’s workshop in the outdoor area.
FSU investigate materials for boats
We have enjoyed trying out a range of found materials and construction kits to make a boat to carry play people across the water, as part of our travel and transport topic.
Caribbean cookery at Molescroft Primary
Key Stage 1 had an amazing morning at Molescroft Primary. We made a delicious, healthy Caribbean stew with mashed plantains.
The children developed their culinary skills- peeling, chopping, mashing…
We learned that the safest way to use a peeler was to hold the vegetables on a fork, then peel away from the body. The children were taught the safe way to chop too.
The school smelled fantastic and all of the children, and staff, got to taste their cooking before we left.
Some of the children said it was the tastiest vegetables they had ever had!
Team Woodmansey at the dodgeball tournament
On Tuesday evening a team of children in 5/6 took part in a dodgeball competition held at the Beverley Grammar Scjhol. The children loved the evening and came an impressive third place. Well done to the children who took part!

FSU Bring Your Wheels To School Day
FSU have had a brilliant day taking part in obstacle courses on bikes and scooters, using timers to find out how many laps they can do in a minute; pedalling and scooting confidently; being safe and showing off their skills in sun, wind and, one point, snow!
